Thursday morning, the residents of Weyburn lined the streets of the city to take in the Weyburn Chamber of Commerce Summer Parade. They watched the over 75 entries wind their way through the streets, with the spectacle and flash they have come to expect from the annual event.

“I think each year we say that it gets bigger and better, but this year it actually was truly bigger and better,” said Monica Osborn, the executive director of the Weyburn Chamber of Commerce. She noted that with more than 75 entries, it was one of the largest parades they have ever held.

Every year, the Chamber of Commerce names the winners of the parade, and most times it is a difficult decision for the judges. This year was no exception, but, by Friday morning they had made their decisions.

“The creativity that goes into some of these floats is just mind-blowing and just phenomenal,” Osborn added. “The creativity that people have is just so great to see, and their community spirit just shows through their parade floats.”

The winning float in the business category this year was from Meok Ja 2D Milk Tea Bar. Their float incorporated the art style of the café itself, using 2D line drawings to bring the float to life and bring a smile to the faces of those along the parade route.

The top float in the organization category belonged to Little Discoveries Early Learning Centre. The float featured the kids from the centre and captured scenes from the movie Up, complete with the balloons and all the animals.
