Folks in Swift Current with a Petro-Points membership will notice a bit of a disruption to their accounts for the time being.

Due to a cybersecurity incident late last month, the company has temporarily disabled their Petro-Points systems, including the website and app, out of caution.

In a statement posted to their official Facebook account, Petro-Canada stated that investigation has determined their IT network was accessed by an unauthorized party on June 21, obtaining member contact information.

“The security of your personal information is important to us,” the company wrote. “We regret this incident has happened, and we appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to resolve the situation.”

They also assured that while folks are currently unable to redeem points, all current balances will be kept, and credit will be provided for points earned during the outage.

While the corporation claimed they are conducting enhanced security monitoring, no details were provided on a timeline for the points system to be rebooted.

In the meantime, members are advised to closely monitor any unusual emails or messages and confirm any requests are legitimate before providing personal information. Folks can do so by contacting the customer service team at 1 800 668 0220.
