It was a busy weekend of lacrosse for the Weyburn Thrashers. The U13, U15 and U17 teams were in Moose Jaw for the Saskatchewan Lacrosse Association House Provincials.

The U13 Thrashers opened up their tournament Friday morning, as they played the Regina Crossfire. The two teams would play to a 4-4 tie, with Julie Labrecque leading the way for Weyburn with two goals. Hunter Moon added a goal and two assists, with the other goal coming from Evrhet Schenher.

The Thrashers then continued the round robin Friday afternoon taking on the Carnduff Cobras. Weyburn would remain undefeated in the tournament, with a 3-2 victory. Labrecque scored the game-winner, with Cohen Baumgartner and Arson Herriot scoring the other two goals.

Saturday morning the round robin continued as the Thrashers took on the Carnduff Cobras once again. Weyburn made it two wins in a row over the Cobras, with a 5-1 victory. Herriot and Schenher had two goals each in the game, with Hunter Moon also scoring.

The first loss of the tournament for Weyburn came in the afternoon game Saturday, as they dropped a 9-3 decision to the Crossfire. The Thrashers had goals from Herriot, Labrecque and Moon in the loss.

This set up a rematch with the Cobras in the semi-finals. This time, though, Carnduff would be the one coming out on top. They picked up a 3-2 victory. Weyburn’s goals came from Schenher and Baumgarnter.

The U15 Thrashers opened their provincials tournament Thursday, taking on the Regina Titans in the first game of the tournament. Alex Labrecque would score four goals for Weyburn in the game, with Max Vennard and Hudson Maloney scoring twice each. Leo Missal also scored in the 9-2 victory.

The Thrashers would stumble in their second game of the tournament, playing the Moose Jaw Mustangs Friday morning. The Mustangs would get a 6-4 win. Vennard, Maloney, Maddox Mohan and Shiloh Mickler scored in the loss.

The Thrashers bounced back in the third game of the round robin, as they routed the Regina Predators 8-1 Saturday afternoon. Lebrecque scored twice, with single goals added by Vennard, Missal, Mohan, Mickler, Rowan Bocian and Ozmun Steele.

Then, Saturday evening Weyburn would close out the round-robin by taking on the Swift Current Rampage. It would be a close game, but a goal with just two seconds left on the clock by Andrew Charlton lifted the Thrashers to a 5-3 win. Mohan scored twice, with Maloney and Mickler adding singles.

This put Weyburn into the finals, where they were up against the Moose Jaw Mustangs, the only team to hand them a loss in the round-robin. This time, it would be Weyburn taking the victory, and capturing their first-ever provincial championship, by a score of 6-5. Labrecque, who led the team in scoring for the tournament, would score twice, including the game-winning goal in overtime with 10 seconds left on the clock. Maloney added a hat trick, with Mohan also scoring for the Thrashers in the win.

The U17 Thrashers opened their quest for a provincial title Friday afternoon, playing the Moose Jaw Mustangs. Weyburn held off the Mustangs, picking up an 8-7 win. Sawyer Leko had a hat trick, while Brody Morrice and Kaleb Sheasby scored twice each. Ryder Hignett also scored in the win.

Late Friday afternoon, the Thrashers were back on the floor, taking on the Regina Snipers. Regina would come out on top of the game, beating the Thrashers 10-2. Weyburn’s goals would come courtesy of Vann Dennis and Jack Missal.

The Thrashers would be right back at it Saturday morning, and they came out on fire. They routed the Saskatoon Bandits 9-1, with eight different players scoring in the victory. Hignett scored twice, with Missal, Leko, Ella Schenher, Spencer Bell, Nash Hignett, A.J. Bratrud and Sheasby tallying in the victory. Weyburn followed this up with an 8-5 win over the Regina Waterdogs. Leko chipped in four goals, with Morrice scoring three of his own. Missal also scored in the win.

The Thrashers were now bound for the finals, which would be a game against the Mustangs, the team they held off to beat in the opening game of the tournament. This time, it would be Moose Jaw capturing the win, beating Weyburn 9-3. Leko, Morrice and Bell all scored in the loss, which ensured Weyburn was coming home with the silver medal.
