Irene (Spate) Binner

February 22, 1928 – July 7, 2023

 

Irene (Spate) Binner passed away peacefully, at the age of 95, in Moose Jaw, Sk. July 7, 2023. Irene was born in the Morse District to parents Christian and Marie Spate on February 22, 1928. She, along with her siblings Margaret and Ted, lived on the family farm near Morse. She married Frank Binner on October 15, 1949, living in Moose Jaw for the early part of their married life. They moved to the Binner Family farm southeast of Ardill and continued to farm in the Ardill District until 1974, then moved to Saskatoon. In 1986, Irene and Frank retired to Moose Jaw and built their home there. Irene was well known for her tremendous domestic skills – a great cook, a spotless house, an accomplished seamstress and an immaculate yard. She was house-mom to several of her grandchildren as they moved through high school and into college.

After Frank passed away in 2006 (July 7) Irene remained in her home on Dahlia Crescent until 2014, when she moved to Mossbank to be closer to her family. In 2018 Irene moved to Furrows & Faith Retirement Villa. She continued to love her flowers, evident when you went into her room, and enjoyed caring for the flowers and plants on the Villa’s deck. Her family wishes to thank the staff at the Villa for their care and compassion for the years spent there.

Irene was predeceased by her loving husband Frank, her parents Christian and Marie Spate, her sister and brother-in-law Margaret and Wilfred Meyer, and her brother and sister-in-law Ted and Myrna Spate.

She is survived by her three daughters:

Linda Archer, grandchildren Lisa Archer, Leslie (Carmellie) Archer, David (Jacqueline) Archer, and great grandchildren Ty and Marie Archer, Hilary (Colby) Brown, Erica (JJ) Archer, Jaden, and Jason Carroll.

Sandra (Gregg) Nagel, grandchildren Julie (Denny) Greiner, Brad (Heather) Nagel, Chris (Becky) Nagel, great grandchildren Austin, Justine, and Josie Gosling, Kyle (Jenna) Nagel, Tanner (Lexie) Nagel, Cooper (Mackenzie) Nagel, Gage and Van Nagel, Jack, Kohen, and Eli Volsky; great-great grandchildren Trigger, Lily, Evee, Gabe, Maisy, and Tilly Nagel.

Mary (Donald) Sandbeck, grandchildren Kim (Marc) Miller, Michael (Marta) Sandbeck, Patrick (Kalita)Sandbeck, great grandchildren Noah (Krista), Bailey, Payton, and Quinn Miller and Sloan Sandbeck.

Along with two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Binner and Florence Binner-Forsythe, she is survived by many nieces, nephews, and their children.

Irene’s great love of flowers and plants of all kinds and her family will go on forever.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at 1:00PM at Sunset Cemetery followed by a Celebration of Irene’s life at 2:00PM at Minto United Church Reception Hall, 1036 7 Ave NW, Moose Jaw, SK
