MAGOWAN

It is with great sadness that the family of Alice Christina Magowan aged 84 years of Moose Jaw, SK, announces her peaceful passing in the early morning of Friday, July 14th, 2023.  Alice was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, and grew up on the family farm at Bridgeford, SK as the youngest of 8 siblings.  She attended school there and then worked at the CIBC bank in Central Butte as a teller before and after she married a farmer from the Mawer area, Gordon Magowan.  Gordon built a new house for Alice on the Quigley farm, and they married in 1962.

Alice and Gordon farmed together for 51 years.  Their daughter, Christina Rose, was born in 1968.  Alice worked hard through the years to make a nice home, always working decorating the interior, planting trees, planting and tending to her big garden, and hauling grain for Gordon.  Alice organized and performed at many country music fundraising events in Central Butte, SK.  Around the year 1988, she had her own band named "Alice and the Midnighters" and performed at the local bars and events in the nearby area of Central Butte, Tugaske, Eyebrow, Riverhurst and Moose Jaw.  After Gordon passed away in July of 2013, Alice bravely sold the farm to Myron Fowler, and moved to a house behind the mall in Moose Jaw.  Alice had a passion for a beautiful home, fancy jewellery, country music, and most of all caring for her dogs and cats as well as everyone else's animals.

She was predeceased by her parents, Laurits and Violet Larsen; siblings: Ellen Esmond (and husband Art), Rose Sjodin (and husband Elmer), Freda Manz (and husband Len), Archie Larsen (and wife Vicky), Vic Larsen, and Beatrice Mayer (and husband Vic); brother-in-law Bob Magowan (and wife Aileen) as well as nephews: Ron, Don, and Wayne Esmond, and Bruce Mayer; niece, Sharon Radigk-Kobialko; and great-nephews, Keith Langton and Colin Langton.

Alice will be sadly missed by her daughter, Christina; son-in-law, Brian Lawrence; sister, Josephine Larsen; and many nieces and nephews.  A big thank you is sent for all the love given to Alice over two years to the wonderful staff at Chez Nous, and the kind staff that cared for her in the last month at West Park Crossing, as well as Dr. Alberts and nurse Heather in Emergency at the Dr. F.H. Wigmore Regional Hospital on the night of her passing.

A Celebration of Alice’s Life will be held on Tuesday, July 18th, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home, with a time of visitation for family and friends from 10:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. prior to the celebration.  Pastor Greg Spencer will officiate and interment will take place in Sunset Cemetery.
