David Stammen
November 11, 1936 – July 16, 2023
The death of David Stammen of Humboldt, Saskatchewan, (and formerly of Annaheim, Saskatchewan), occurred peacefully at Humboldt District Hospital, Humboldt, on Sunday, July 16, 2023. He was 86 years of age. David was born to Charles and Ida (nee Stammen) Baker on November 11, 1936, in Vancouver, British Columbia. He was 10 days old when his mother passed away and, due to circumstances, he was adopted by his Uncle Roman and Aunt Bertha Stammen in March 1937 in Annaheim, SK. Dave farmed with his brother Maurice and, in later years, ran a successful family lumber business with his sons. Always humble, story telling with family, friends, or even a stranger was a special gift he had. He also had a passion for all things wood - trees, logging, and lumber. He was happiest with his family, going to garage sales with Darlene, all times spent with his children and grandchildren, and nature walks at the cabin. Upon retirement he undertook a unique hobby of building wooden tractor models to scale. David will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 60 years, Darlene (nee Willenborg); two sons and their families, Murray (Lynn) and family, Justin, and Bryson; and Brent (Michelle) and family, Cody (Graycee), Brandon (Kortney) and Courtney (Connor); in-laws of the Stammen/Baker and Willenborg families; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his infant son, Kevin; both his biological and adoptive parents; and by three brothers and one sister: George Baker, Olive (Ed) Kramer, Jim (Helen) Baker, and Maurice Baker. The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church, Humboldt, on Friday, July 21, 2023, at 10:00 a.m., celebrated by Fr. John Ezeoruonye. Others taking part were: Bryson Stammen, crossbearer; Calvin Vedress and Courtney Stammen, scripture readers; Graycee McRae, Kortney Chornomitz, Courtney Stammen, and Michelle Stammen, intentions; Lynn Stammen, Justin Stammen, and Bryson Stammen, giftbearers; Sue Slaght, eulogist; Cody Stammen and Justin Stammen, urnbearers. Interment followed at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Annaheim. Memorial donations may be directed to St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Cemetery (P.O. Box 120, Annaheim, SK, S0K 0G0).
