Ruby Michel
Ruby Margaret Michel (née Schroeder) was born on the family farm near Jansen, Saskatchewan to Manuel and Mary (née Bales) Schroeder. After finishing her education at Illinois Country School, Ruby worked at the LeRoy Hotel during the winter months. She met Walter when his parents came to visit her parents. Walter and Ruby were married in 1952 and farm life continued. Their family expanded to include Candace, Bud, and Ron. Ruby’s creative and precise nature was expressed in her many talents. She loved to cook, bake, sew, and garden. Her green thumb extended to her flower beds that flowed with colour. Ruby and Walter’s lives were very busy with working together on the farm and raising a family. Though they worked hard, there was always time for fun. In early years, they gathered with friends and neighbours to play cards and go to dances at the Silver Dome in St. Gregor. Ruby and Walter loved to travel. With their family, they made many summer trips in a tent trailer. After they purchased their first motorhome, they made numerous miles across Canada and the U.S. in the summer months. They spent eight winters in Hawaii and twelve in Yuma, Arizona. They made a great many friends in their travels. After Walter’s passing, Ruby moved to Fairway Fourteen and later to Caleb Village, as well as, a short stay at The Elizabeth where she continued to enjoy friends and family. Eventually needing more care, she moved to Trinity Manor in Saskatoon.
