Those travelling in the Carman and Sperling areas caught a glimpse of a funnel cloud late Saturday afternoon. According to those who reached out to PembinaValleyOnline, the funnel cloud was spotted around 5:30 p.m. near Carman and the Sperling region.

CMOS Accredited Weathercaster Chris Sumner suspects this was a cold core funnel cloud, noting there were no severe thunderstorms or supercells in the region at the time of the occurrence.

"These particular funnel clouds form out of weak thunderstorms or quickly developing cumulus clouds," he explained. "Typically you need to see some daytime heating, which we had with the periodic sunny breaks Saturday afternoon, coupled with colder air aloft. Typically these funnel clouds do not touch the ground."

Based on initial reports to PembinaValleyOnline, this particular funnel cloud did not touchdown.

The forecast for Saturday night is mainly cloudy with a 30 per cent chance of showers and a low of 12.
