Banff National Park is issuing a warning and reminder to those visiting the National Park, and all other National parks: the recreational use of drones at all Parks Canada places is not allowed.
"Drone flying is a popular hobby for many people and may also be used for commercial purposes. However, Drones can pose risks to visitors, disturb wildlife and lead to negative experiences for other visitors to Banff National Park. For these reasons, Parks Canada strictly limits the use of drones," a statement from Parks Canada read.
Those who are caught operating a drone within park boundaries and without an approved permit may be fined upwards of $25,000 and get in trouble with the law. The only drones which are permitted are commercial use drones, and you need a permit for those.
"The Superintendent may only issue a Restricted Activity Permit for the use of a drone for the following purposes: Natural or cultural resource management and protection, public safety, law enforcement and/or park/site management purposes directly relating to park administrative purposes."
Those who see a drone in Banff National Park, are encouraged to report it to park wardens via Banff Dispatch 403-762-1470.
