Light rain showers Monday morning had our Rainwatchers checking their gauges to start the work week.
“The area of precipitation, primarily, kept along Highway 23 southward, with the highest totals right along Highway 3 and 14,” said CMOS Accredited Weathercaster Chris Sumner. “Yesterday’s moisture could be the first of several chances of shower activity this week.”

And why the multiples chances for rain in the coming days?
“The moisture from the remnants of Tropical Storm Hilary have been riding the jet stream northward, and are making their way across the southern Prairies over the next couple of days,” explained Sumner. “Also aiding in transporting that moisture is a strong area of high pressure set up over the central U.S. which is deflecting it toward its outer edges, which is currently relatively near the international border.”
He noted, that moisture will play a role in the humid conditions expected Tuesday and Wednesday, and will provide the fuel necessary for additional rainfall. Because of the cooler daytime highs expected today, between 21 and 23, it won’t feel as humid as it could, but it will still be close to the 30 range. Wednesday is looking muggy, as well, with the Humidex expected to near 30 across much of Southern Manitoba, as temperatures warm up, and that lingering humidity sticks around.
“The key to seeing those showers is also having a trigger, and that looks possible Tuesday and Wednesday with weak low pressure systems moving through the region,” added Sumner.
The humidity is expected to subside later in the week, with temperatures Thursday through Sunday ranging between 23 and 27.
Average daytime highs for this point in August are 24, with overnight lows around 11.
