Marlene Knoblauch
July 14, 1941 – August 21, 2023
The death of Marlene (nee Schmidtkamp) Knoblauch of Humboldt, SK, occurred at Humboldt District Hospital on Monday, August 21, 2023. She was 82 years of age. Marlene, the youngest of five children was born to John and Anna (née Bustin) Schmidtkamp at home on their farm near Englefeld, SK. She attended Korbel Rural School and worked hard on the farm, a trait she continued all her life. She started working at Watson Hospital in 1960 as a nursing aid. At this time, she enjoyed going out dancing and visiting with friends. After getting married in 1964, Marlene continued her 32-year career at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Humboldt. She advanced her career working in the maternity ward and later in equipment sterilization. During this time, she was a union representative for the Humboldt region, and fought for nursing rights and remuneration. Marlene was passionate and compassionate in her work, for those in her care, for her family, and caring also for her parents when they were in the hospital and in long term care. She was a supermom and family was her major priority. Marlene worked hard to raise her family between 12-hour shifts at the Hospital. She always had a big garden, raised chickens, and preserved all sorts of food in the fall, which were the ingredients to her superb cooking. After getting the children fed, she managed to get them to all the school and sports activities they were involved in. Twice, Marlene traveled to Germany to visit extended family. As well, on several occasions she travelled, with her own young family, to visit her sisters and their families in British Columbia and Alberta. After retirement Marlene travelled through Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alaska, and South Dakota. Also, she often travelled to Wakaw and Saskatoon to visit children and grandchildren. Marlene will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by: her husband John Seier; son Blaine Knoblauch and children, Jordana (Simon), Andie (Ben), Evan, and Michael; son Trent (Arlene) Knoblauch and children, Tara (Darren) and their children - Leo and Cooper, Jade (Lee), and Tyrel; son Dean (Carrie) Knoblauch; step-daughter Elaine Seier; siblings: Louise Chester, and Melvin Schmidtkamp; and by special nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband Ben Knoblauch; step-son Ken Seier; parents John and Anna Schmidtkamp; and by her siblings Henry Schmidtkamp and Marie Fiddler. The Funeral Mass was offered at Holy Guardian Angels Roman Catholic Church, Englefeld, SK, on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., celebrated by Fr. Francis Akomeah. Others taking part were: Jade Knoblauch, crossbearer; Carol Sommer and Gail Michel, scripture readers; Evan Knoblauch, Michael Knoblauch and Tyrel Knoblauch, giftbearers; and Jordana Knoblauch and Andie Knoblauch, memorial table attendants.
