MCNALLY
It is with great sadness that the family of Roy Elwood McNally announces that our beloved brother and uncle passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 23rd, 2023, at the Moose Jaw Special Care Home (Extendicare).
Roy was born to Robert and Catherine McNally on April 18th, 1947, in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. Tragically, Roy’s mother passed away shortly after his birth. Roy lived on the family farm in the Bethune district with his father and 5 siblings for a short time before moving to a farm in Strasburg, SK, where he was raised by his Aunt Nan and Uncle Russell Barber. As a child, Roy was very active and full of life; he loved exploring the farm. After living with his aunt and uncle, Roy later went on to live at the Weyburn Nunnery, Valley View Center, Citizens All, and a home-based group home run by the Mitchell’s in Moose Jaw before making his way back to family to live with his nephew Harvey Stewart and his wife Janet and their four children, along with Janet’s brother Ricky Wheeler, Alan Flamant, and Adwin Young in 1988. In 2021, Roy’s growing medical needs necessitated a move to Moose Jaw Special Care Home, where he remained until his passing.
Roy attended Diversified Services for many years and looked forward to going there daily. Those who had the pleasure of knowing Roy knew him to be a very kind and gentle soul; he was timid, but once he got to know someone, his wonderful personality and warm heart shone through. Roy took great pride in his appearance. He insisted on always wearing a dress shirt and pants, complete with a tie; every day, he took great pride in always being the best-dressed.
He was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Catherine McNally; brothers, Jim and Ray (Twila) McNally; sister, Gladys Luzny; brother-in-law, Robert Stewart; nieces, Darla McNally and Doreen Luzny; and nephew, Daryl Luzny. Roy will be lovingly missed by his sister, Evelyn Stewart; brother, Harold (Pat) McNally; brother-in-law, Albert Luzny; sister-in-law, Grace McNally; nephew, Harvey (Janet) Stewart, along with their four children Natasha (Dave) Kennedy, Chad (Mandy) Stewart, Jodie (Russ) MacDonald, and Cody (Lindsay) Stewart; as well as numerous other nieces, nephews, and extended family members. An honourable mention to all that were a part of Roy’s life, we thank you, for all that knew him loved him.
A private family graveside service will take place at the Bethune Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Roy’s name may be made to Moose Jaw Diversified Services, 11 Woodlily Drive, Moose Jaw, SK S6J 1H1. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane. Gary McDowell, Funeral Director 306-693-4550 www.moosejawfuneralhome.com
