A senior citizen remains in police custody after police allege he attacked a man with bear spray and a chainsaw.
The Manitoba RCMP says in a release that on August 28, 2023, at approximately 1:25 p.m., Manitou RCMP responded to an assault at a residence in Somerset, Man. Somerset is approximately 105 KM southwest of Winnipeg.
It was reported that a suspect had broken into a home and used bear spray and a chainsaw to assault a male.
Immediately officers attended and located the victim, a 36-year-old male, injured. The suspect, who was known to the victim, had fled the scene.
The victim was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
A short time later officers located the suspect and he was arrested without incident. A mini electric chainsaw was recovered and seized by police.
Frank Solcan, 73, has been charged with Aggravated Assault, Breaking and Entering and Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose.
He was remanded into custody.
