Portage la Prairie RCMP proceeded to arrest a wanted man who was seen riding a bicycle in Dakota Tipi First Nation. The incident occurred this past Monday at about 3:40 p.m. The man pulled a knife on officers when he was informed of the arrest, and threatened to kill the policeman.
The officer drew his firearm and told him to stop advancing immediately, and called for back-up. The suspect turned and fled on the bike. The officer followed and saw the suspect discard the knife into a bush.
He continued to flee police, dumped his bicycle, and ran on foot. Officers pursued him and told him to stop several times. During the foot pursuit, the man threatened to stab and fight the officers. When officers caught up with him, he refused to comply with their demands, and challenged them to a fight. It was then that a Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW) was deployed and officers were able to arrest the suspect after a brief struggle.
RCMP Police Dog Services attended and after a search, located the knife the suspect discarded.
In addition to his warrant, Curtis Pashe, 37, has been charged with Assaulting a Peace Officer with a Weapon, Uttering Threats, Resisting Arrest, Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, Carrying a Concealed Weapon and Fail to Comply x2.
