The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) is rescinding its Implementation Order around Kenora Fire 27 effective at 12:01 a.m. on Tuesday, May 25.
The roads that will reopen include:
- Sand Lake Road from the intersection of Hwy 596, east through to the English River Road, and all branch roads within
- English River Road beginning at unnamed road (1 kilometre north of Forgotten Lake), through to Lennan Road, including all roads within.
Area residents will be allowed to once again visit their property, access closed roads and make use of Crown Lands adjacent to previously closed roads.
Kenora Fire 27 is burning out of control north of Kenora and is currently 4,480 hectares in size.
The MNRF says 10 Fire Ranger crews are working to extinguish hotspots on the fire's perimeter and establishing campsites and helipads.
Since yesterday, 10 crews have been added to fight against Kenora Fire 25 (2,062 hectares) & 30 (1,162 hectares), east of Kenora.
A total of 31 crews and eight helicopters are working to extinguish hotspots and the MNRF says there was minimal fire behaviour today.
The forest fire hazard across the region is listed as low, with pockets of moderate risk across the district.
