The U14 Young Fellow Falcons and U12 West Country Ravens took to the road on Saturday, travelling to Swift Current to take on the Steelers. Both teams were looking to come away from the weekend with their first win of the season.
The Falcons would take to the field, and absolutely dominate their opponents, winning 23-0.
“It feels good to shut out the team that ended our season last year and went on to win the championship,” said coach Darren Johnson after the game.
The defence was solid for the Falcons, limiting the opportunities for the Steelers, and even helping kick off the scoring in the game with a pick-6. Offensively, the Falcons controlled the clock, especially in the second half, and picked up crucial points along the way.
The next game for the Falcons is Wednesday night when they host Estevan under the lights at the Weyburn Minor Football Field.
The Ravens, who played the early game of the day, found themselves up against a tough Steelers squad. While Landon Leroux picked up 159 yards along the ground, and Judd Venard another 62, the Ravens weren’t able to pick up any points offensively, falling 26-2.
Defensively, Hudson Lawrence and Owen Abtosway had 10 tackles each in the loss, with Cale Porter making the tackle for a safety, and Kai Clark recording a sack.
The Ravens are back in action on the weekend against Estevan.
