Airdrie Councilwoman Tina Petrow will be embarking on her next destination and climbing her second mountain as part of her "Hike for Hunger" campaign.

Petrow plans to hike up to 60 kilometres with 5,000 meters of elevation over a 35-day span to raise $10,000 for the Airdrie Food Bank.

According to her, She is well on the way to her goal.

"The last update I got is that around $2,500 has been raised."

In total her goal is to raise $10,000 for the Airdrie Food Bank.

The first mountain she climbed was Mount Allan. She plans on tackling Cascade Mountain on Saturday, a daunting-looking peak you may have seen if you have ever visited Banff. It's the tall mountain you can see at the end of Banff Avenue.

"I've never climbed it. A bunch of the folks that I'm going with have climbed it. I think just under 1700 meters of elevation. The mountain itself is about 3000 meters up and about 18 kilometres in total."

Petrow hopes she can have the total amount raised sitting at $7000 after this weekend which would leave $3000 left to be fundraised for the final mountain.

"Instead of a Starbucks drink today, if you can donate that to the food bank that would be great. If you can give 20 bucks, 10 bucks, whatever you can will help us get to that $10,000 goal."

The final mountain she plans on climbing is Mount Bourgeau, which will happen on October 14.

"I think it's 24 kilometres in total. So it'll be a long trek but about the same elevation as the one we're doing this weekend."

Petrow will be posting some video and photo updates along the way if you'd like to keep track of her progress. The food bank will also be updating a page on its website with the dollar progress every week to show how far she is from her fundraising goal.
