After showers throughout Friday and Saturday, the damp conditions this weekend continued overnight into Sunday morning.

“As we talked about throughout the week, that low pressure system moving through the Dakotas has been throwing wave after wave of precipitation northward,” explained CMOS Accredited Weathercaster Chris Sumner. “We have had some breaks in the rain, and there were even some peeks of sunshine late Saturday afternoon in areas east of the Red River. We may see the same thing Sunday, but I would expect another mainly cloudy, damp day, for the most part.”

He noted high pressure over Hudson Bay is blocking the low impacting Southern Manitoba from moving out of the region, and will delay its overall exit from the area.

“What that means is we can expect somewhat cloudy conditions to continue Monday, with periods of sun, but the chances of additional rainfall should be fairly low.”

The below totals are courtesy PembinaValleyOnline Rainwatchers, Environment Canada and the Manitoba Ag Weather Network. They are for Saturday, September 23rd through 9am Sunday, September 24th except where otherwise noted.

Looking ahead to the rest of the week, Sumner pointed to a drier and much sunnier pattern developing as an upper level ridge of high pressure builds over the Prairies. That will also help keep temperatures several degrees above average for this time of year.

“Monday through Friday, highs are looking like they will land in the 20 to 24 range, but there is some uncertainty how far northward the warmest air will be able to go, depending on how where the ridge sets up,” he said. “Overall, it should be a pleasant week, with a few dry days before our next chance of shower activity arrives Thursday night in Friday.”

Averages for this time of year are 17 for a daytime high and 5 for an overnight low.
