Two non-profits that strive to empower women on two continents will benefit from a fundraiser in Altona this past weekend.

Funds raised through the Good Double Blessing Fundraiser, hosted by the Love Well Centre will be split 50/50 between the Altona drop-in and a similar centre in Guatemala.

Half of the funds will benefit the Community Transformation Foundation, a Canadian charity that supports Hijos de Dios Community Centre in Guatemala which helps support women who face abuse and prejudice. The other half will go to the Love Well Drop-in Centre.

Robyn Sierks, co-director of the Love Well Drop-in Centre says they consider the centre in Guatemala as their sister drop-in.

She says they all work together towards the same goal, to empower women and make women feel safe, wanted, and loved.

The Love Well Drop-In Centre in Altona has been open for just over three years.

Co-director Gaetene Reimer says traffic through the doors of the Love Well Centre in Altona is increasing all the time.

"We are pleasantly surprised at the increase, we average 150 women a month visiting the drop-in, and from all areas of southern Manitoba," she noted.
