Although they will still be selling treats online, the doors to 'What's the Scoop?' will close to the public this coming Saturday.

Owner, Rhonda Lodwick says that the ice cream shop opens every year on May 1st and usually wraps up the season at the end of September.

"It's that time of year where we need to just close out and say goodbye."

Lodwick says that the season was good even though they had to deal with the Saskatchewan Avenue Rejuvenation Project affecting access to the store.

"It is so nice now that people can park in front, and we're excited for the future, and next year, we're already thinking about 2024 with no construction. We're just so thankful for the people in Portage and the surrounding areas that come out and support us."

This was the seventh year that the shop has been in business in Portage. Lodwick explains that the decision to open an ice cream shop goes back to family tradition, as her grandfather had owned an ice cream shop before she was born.

"It was kind of cool to bring it all around through to fruition, being able to be the granddaughter and to have an ice cream shop."

Lodwick says the summer was great, and she's happy to see everyone come out and support local businesses.
