Rudolph “Rudy” A. Kurja
October 19, 1922 – September 20, 2023
Rudolph was born on October 19, 1922, to Joseph and Kathleen (née Schneider) Kurja, the youngest of nine children. He attended school at Belmont School and took over the family farm in 1946 after his father died. Besides farming, he also did drywalling in the city and around the area. Rudy moved to St. Benedict in 1973 and married Louise (née Baumann) Meidl on April 28, 1984. Rudy’s hobbies included gardening, fishing, bowling, dancing, auction sales, travelling, and playing cards. Rudolph will be remembered by: his loving wife of 39 years, Louise (née Baumann) (Meidl)Kurja; two step-children: Rosemary (Bryan) Foley, and Greg (Brenda) Meidl; step-children in-laws: Margaret Korosi, Olene Meidl, and Keith Brodbin; seven grandsons; five granddaughters; nine great-grandsons; and five great-granddaughters; nieces; nephews; and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents; eight siblings; four step-sons: Dennis, Mervyn, Brian, and Michael Meidl; and step-daughter Laura Brodbin. The Funeral Mass took place on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Benedict Roman Catholic Church, St. Benedict, Saskatchewan, celebrated by Fr. Benjamin Ezekwudo. Others taking part were: Chad Brodbin, cross bearer; Rosemary Foley and Marcus Lussier, scripture readers; Courtney Lussier, intentions; and Greg and Brenda Meidl, gift bearers. Pallbearers were Patrick Kuja, Trevor Kurja, Kyle Brodbin, Curtis Meidl, Tyler Foly; and Rryan Foley. A memorial luncheon was held at St. Benedict church basement. Interment will take place at a later date. Memorial donation may be directed to St. Benedict Roman Catholic Church Fund (P.O. Box 239, Cudworth, SK, S0K).
