Alain Marie Giselain Tremel Sr
July 29, 1929 – September 27, 2023
Alain Marie Giselain Tremel, the only son of Jean-Baptiste and Louisa Tremel, was born on June 29, 1929. He was born on this grandfather Bruyr’s homestead near Prud’homme, Sask. Alain spent his first years of childhood in Prud’homme, until his parents moved back to his father’s farm near Peterson, Sask. He attended his first year of school in Prud’homme, and lived with his grandma and grandpa Bruyr. He then came back to Peterson and attended Curwood school for his second grade. He continued his education, and attended Medomsley school, with his two sisters, but returned to complete his grade eight education at Curwood school. At this point, Alain began farming full time with his father. As a boy, Alain did some hunting and trapping, but he also crafted finely detailed woodwork with a scroll saw, including the table and chairs in the Sanctuary of St. Agnes Church in Peterson, Sask. He became a member of the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool at the age of sixteen and was a member spanning over 35 years. In the fall of 1954, he met a farm girl, Albertine Boutin, from Domremy, Sask. Six months later they married on April 12, 1955. At this time, Alain’s parents retired to the hamlet of Peterson, so that Alain and Albertine could take over the family farm. Together, Alain and Albertine worked hard to build up the farm, and ran a mixed farming operation all their lives, surviving through the many challenges that come with farming. Alain loved horses, and instilled that love in many of his children and grandchildren. Alain and Albertine raised their four children on the farm, and as the family grew to include grandchildren, new hope and strength was found for the future generations to continue the family farm. In 1991, Alain and Albertine retired to the town of Bruno. Alain continued to visit the farm almost every day, and helped his sons with the farming, wherever he was needed. He loved to socialize and visit with friends and family, having a few drinks and playing cards. He also enjoyed dancing and teaching the grandchildren how to dance. Alain had a love for antiques, and had a small collection of unique things displayed in his garage in Bruno. When the couple started to face deteriorating health issues, Alain moved to live at The Elizabeth, in Humboldt in February of 2020, so that he could be closer to Albertine, who lived at St. Mary’s Villa in Humboldt. Throughout the years, Alain was an active member of his church and community; President of the Peterson Community Centre, a board member of the Bruno Credit Union for 14 years, school trustee in Peterson and Bruno schools, representing Peterson in the Wakaw School Unit. He also served a term as a council member for the Town of Bruno. Family was important to Alain, and he always provided unconditional love to each one of them. He was a determined, fun-loving, hardworking and generous man. His motto was “if you can’t make your heaven and have it on earth, then don’t expect to have it after either”.
