Agriculture in the Classroom Saskatchewan is celebrating the 10th Anniversary of their "Food Farm Event" this year.
Executive Director Sara Shymko says Agriculture in the Classroom plays a really important role in helping students understand where their food comes from.
"They learn more about modern agricultural practices and consider careers in the exciting world of agriculture. Our future workforce is sitting in the classroom today, and the work that we are doing in the classrooms is really important to helping build a strong future for agriculture across Saskatchewan and across Canada."
She says the Food Farm program takes students on the food journey from seeding in the spring to harvest in the fall ... going from field to fork.
"They're able to view and see comparisons between fields that have technology use like fertilizer, crop protection products, and those that don't have. What we also find is that teachers who participate in the food farm programs tend to get involved in a lot of our other activities and use other resources. So that enhances the learning experiences for the students."
Shymko says another key factor with the program is the partnership that's developed with the local community and agriculture industry.
