Portage la Prairie RCMP chased a dirt bike that was speeding on 3rd Street NE as it turned onto Trenton Avenue.  The incident occurred on October 4 at about 7:25 p.m. The bike would not stop, so the cruiser turned on its emergency lights. As the speed increased, the officer turned off his lights and ceased pursuit for safety reasons.

The officer was able to continue to view the dirt bike ahead on the road when the driver began to cross the railway tracks. There, the bike toppled onto its side. The rider then dropped a backpack and fled on foot southeast into a cornfield.

After retrieving the backpack, the officer found a large knife and a set of brass knuckles. RCMP Police Dog Services were called and additional officers arrived to help contain the area. It was quickly determined that the man who fled got into a vehicle and was able to leave the area.

Inside the backpack, police found cocaine as well as drug trafficking paraphernalia.

A warrant has been issued for Dexter Roulette, 38, of Portage. If you have information about the whereabouts of Roulette, please call Portage RCMP at 204-857-4445, Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477, or secure tip online at www.manitobacrimestoppers.com.
