A 28-year-old woman is facing 53 counts of fraud under $5,000.

According to the Moose Jaw Police Service, Katelyn Marie Ann Carle is accused of defrauding local businesses and residents by stating she had a terminal illness.

Between December 2021 and January 2022, businesses and residents lost approximately $16,000 by way of organized fundraisers and other financial assistance.

Police say those who assisted in organizing the fundraisers are not complicit in the scam.

The Moose Jaw Police Service is in the process of contacting potential victims. If you believe you were defrauded by the accused, you are asked to contact the Moose Jaw Police Service at 306-694-7600.

Carle is expected to make her first appearance in Moose Jaw Provincial Court on Dec. 11.
