“People are loving it. They love the thin crust. They love our gluten-free crust. They love the fresh toppings. They love LOTS of cheese on the pizza… which we have. So far, it’s been a great journey, and people are loving it!” says Jas Thind about the newly opened local restaurant, Cochrane Pizza & Grill.
"Here, everything is made in-house. The dough, the sauce and the marinades. Short of a backroom garden or an on-site butcher shop, it’s all made right here."
From classics like pepperoni and plain cheese all the way to flavorful Loaded Veg and Chicken Lovers pies, they have flavours for all tastes. Cochrane Pizza & Grill has only been open for a handful of weeks, but already their team can see which menu items are the most popular.
“The most popular right now are the Pizza Fantasia, the Butter Paneer, and the Tandoori Paneer Pizza. People are loving them.”
For readers who have yet to take a taste, let’s have a breakdown of that tantalizing top three:
Pizza Fantasia: pizza sauce, cheese, ham, salami, pepperoni, onions, green peppers, and mushrooms.
Butter Paneer Pizza: butter sauce, cheese, marinated paneer, red onions, tomato, roasted garlic, green peppers.
Tandoori Paneer Pizza: pizza sauce, cheese, marinated paneer, green peppers, banana peppers, and onions.
Beyond pizza, they also offer grilled wings, tandoori wings, tandoori fish, salads, garlic bread, and tandoori paneer. Gluten-free options are available. Pizza by the slice is also available daily from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Thind made the move from Sweden to Cochrane back in 2012. After working in and around the area in various markets, Thind decided it was finally time to open the business he’d been thinking about for years.
“We loved the Cochrane community immediately,” Thind shares. “We loved the people here. So, we were like, why not?”
The pull of being closer to family also played a part.
“I’m pretty sure everyone here knows Jag Thind from Mehtab East Indian Cusine,” says Thind. “Jag is my uncle, and he had a restaurant here, and honestly, we had no family back in Sweden. So we all moved to Cochrane, and we’ve loved it from the start.”
Their passion for the community is made clear through their exceptional customer service. Pickup times are normally 15 minutes, with peak business hours bumping it up to 25-minute waits, still quite an acceptable wait time. While they are connected on Skip The Dishes and DoorDash, Thind does suggest calling them directly. Their in-house team will bring your order to you personally, and you’ll save a few bucks on delivery.
“Locally owned, locally made, and locally delivered,” adds Thind.
Cochrane Pizza & Grill is open Sunday to Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., and Friday to Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Place your takeout or delivery order now at HERE or call 1-403-333-1230.
