Earlier this year, the Saskatchewan Canola Development Commission (SaskCanola) and Saskatchewan Flax Development Commission (SaskFlax)  announced they were considering amalgamation.

The proposed merger would see SaskCanola assume the operations for SaskFlax which would include everything from research and advocacy to market development investments and communications.

SaskCanola has providing operational support for SaskFlax since early January when resolutions were passed at both AGM's calling on the two groups to look into amalgamation.

SaskFlax Chair Greg Sundquist says with flax being a small acreage crop in Saskatchewan,  they think amalgamation would minimize overhead costs for flax producers and better leverage investment opportunities, especially in the areas of policy and research.

As part of the process of looking at amalgamation, a notice was mailed out to producers in early July asking them to take part in an online consultation survey.

SaskCanola Chair Keith Fournier says they've had discussions at the board table but now they want to know whether growers support the idea and what concerns they may have.

The survey will remain open until November 17th with the results being shared during their AGM's in January.
