Debate continues over the Saskatchewan government's intention to invoke the Notwithstanding Clause to push through the Parental Bill of Rights, which would require parents' or guardians' permission for transgender or nonbinary students younger than 16 wishing to use different names or pronouns at school.

Student walkouts happened Tuesday in Regina in protest of the proposed law.

Premier Scott Moe says the majority of Saskatchewan is in favour of the policy, which he has claimed will bring parents closer to their children's lives.

Critics claim it can be harmful for kids who aren't ready to come out to their parents.

Moe announced plans to use the clause after a King's Bench Judge halted the original policy until the courts could rule whether it infringed on children's rights under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
