A Swift Current-based company expanding into southern Alberta has obtained some financial backing.
The Government of Alberta committed $1.3 million to the S3 Group's new $7 million facility in Medicine Hat through its Investment and Growth Fund (IGF grant) today.
Richelle Andreas, the CEO of S3 Group, thanked the provincial government for the investment calling them exceptional partners.
"The Government of Alberta's investment in the IGF program demonstrates a long-term commitment to economic growth, diversification of the economy, and providing meaningful employment to the people of Alberta," she said.
The facility covers over 22,000 square feet and will house office and manufacturing space. It will be the sixth manufacturing facility S3 Group owns and serve as their engineering centre of excellence.
Alberta Premier Danielle Smith was at the announcement and said S3 Group's expansion into Medicine Hat is practical. The city boasts the largest irrigation district in the country and is Canada's third-largest exporter of agri-food products.
"The area is a hub for agricultural activity and home to a strong urban community," she said. "With its location right here on Highway One, the city is a perfect fit. S3 Group is also a perfect fit for Medicine Hat and Alberta. They're creating good jobs for people in the area and adding energy and excitement to an already vibrant community."
The facility is expected to create 100 permanent jobs within five years.
