It's MJHL showcase week and the Portage Terriers showed off some of their skills Tuesday in their first game.

The three-day event is being played out of the Seven Oaks Sports Complex in Winnipeg and started Monday. Every team in the league is featured in two games with scouts from around Canada and North America on hand the see if they can find their next big piece.

Parker Korman of the Terriers had a good first showing as Portage took down Waywayseecapo 6-3 Tuesday in a game with an unusual 5 p.m. start time. Korman opened the scoring 10 minutes into the game and finished with 2 goals and an assist. Jayden Catellier got the win in goal turning aside 24 of the 27 shots he faced while the Terriers fired 35 shots the other way. The Wolverines went 3-5 on the power play and it's an area the Terriers continue to work on. The team is second last in the league with a 72.9% success rate on the penalty kill.

The newest Terrier, forward Matthew Biros, made his debut in the game and pitched in with a third-period goal. Biros was acquired from the Battlefords North Stars a couple of days earlier. The 18-year-old forward from Coquitlam, BC spent last season in the BCHL with the Cowichan Valley Capitals and put up three points in four games this season with Battlefords.

“We expect Matt to bring a solid work ethic and energy to our forward group,” says Terrier head coach and GM Blake Spiller.

The Terriers are now 6-3-3 on the season and will meet up with Virden at 5 p.m. today. (listen here) Following the showcase, the team is heading north for the weekend with games against OCN and Swan Valley Friday and Saturday night.
