Ronald Stewart
March 18, 1944 - October 23, 2023
Ronald Francis Stewart (79), passed away peacefully at St. Mary’s Villa in Humboldt, Saskatchewan on October 23, 2023.
Ron was born on March 18, 1944, near Dysart, Saskatchewan, the fourth of eight children of John and Anne (nee Smith) Stewart. He spent most of his early years growing up in Muenster, Saskatchewan where he attended school at St. Peter’s College. He was active in his youth imparting a life-long love for all sport. He fondly remembered playing hockey and baseball games in rivalry with local teams and cheering on the Riders every fall. He appreciated the prairie upbringing, having instilled a long-standing sense of community.
Work led Ron to The Pas in northern Manitoba, where he met and married Marilyn Miller on May 22, 1971. Together they raised five children while he worked for the local government as the Water Treatment Superintendent. After Marilyn’s passing in 2008, Ron and his son Darcy moved to the Humboldt region and married Marlene Hohmann.
Ron was a remarkable man, who touched the lives of many. He was active in his Roman Catholic faith community, serving as longtime member with the Knights of Columbus. Ron was always ready to lend a hand, volunteering as coach and mentor for sports and scouts’ outings or offering fixes around the house to friends and neighbors. He enjoyed the outdoors, particularly quiet times fishing for pickerel, camping around the many local lakes, as well as working in his workshop pursuing his passion of carpentry. He was a lifetime animal lover who enjoyed observing and feeding birds around his home while in the comfortable company of cats.
Ron loved his family dearly and will be cherished and remembered by his loved ones. Ron was predeceased by his parents John and Anne Stewart; brothers William (Bill) Stewart, Victor Stewart, and Vince Stewart; son Shawn Stewart; and wife Marilyn Stewart. He is survived by his sons Darryl Stewart, Kurt (Wanda) Stewart, Darcy Stewart, and daughter Lori (Paul Bohemier) Stewart; grandchildren Robin Stewart and Germaine Stewart; wife Marlene (nee Hohmann) Stewart; stepchildren Dawn Gilfillan and Robert Gilfillan; brothers Dave (Sharon) Stewart and Jim (Jackie) Stewart; sisters Marion (John Heike) Stewart and Margaret Langevin; sister-in-law Lucille Stewart; and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by all.
