Who doesn't enjoy a warm bowl of soup on a cold November day?

Square One Community Inc. is hosting its second annual Empty Bowls fundraiser on Nov. 17 at St. Andrew's Social Hall.

"This event features soups made by chefs in our community and bowls made by people in our community," explained Square One Chairperson Della Ferguson. "When folks pay their $20, they get a bowl of soup, they get to keep the bowl. They get cake and coffee and tea and a bun."

Several local restaurants are on board this year to support the cause.

"We've got soups coming from Evolve, from the Kinsmen Cafe, from The Mad Greek, Great Canadian Brewhouse and from Soltopia, who will be making a gluten-free soup. I guarantee they'll be a beautiful variety of soups and I'm really looking forward to it."

Some of the bowls were made by the YMCA Regina Moose Jaw branch youth program.

In addition, those in attendance will hear a pre-recorded interview with Kevin Smith from St. Joseph's Rehabilitation Centre in Estevan. Smith will talk about their continuum of care working with people who are dealing with addiction.

Last year's event raised $5,000 for Square One, which is using the funds to support those who are housing insecure in our community. The group is working on developing an emergency shelter at 138 Fairford St. West.

Ferguson noted that one of the reasons that they moved the event to a weekday is so that businesses would have the opportunity to purchase a table in support of the cause.

The event will also feature a silent auction and the "Home For The Holidays" raffle draw.

Tickets for the Empty Bowls fundraiser are $20 and can be purchased at the door or by emailing communitysquareone@gmail.com

Doors open at 11 a.m.
