Warmer days may lie ahead for Portage la Prairie. But first, residents will have to make it through this week.

Samantha Mauti, a meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada, says Portage has been experiencing seasonal weather recently, with the normal low for this time of year being -7 and the normal high +1.

"For the next couple of days, temperatures are in the low single digits, with temperatures around freezing for Thursday and Friday. We're also seeing the possibility of some mixed precipitation over the next couple of days. So, when the temperatures are getting above 0 during the day and then below 0 overnight, you see some of that freeze and thaw cycle happen."

Mauti notes that Environment and Climate Change Canada cautions that when conditions hover around 0 degrees, it's essential to be a mindful driver.

Looking ahead to the end of the week, Mauti highlights that we could see some above-seasonal temperatures, with highs of +7 in the forecast for Sunday and Monday.

"It looks like for a good chunk of next week, there should be some highs above normal, so some models are pointing to that ending kind of midweek."
