Amaranth traffic stop leads to meth seizure

On January 22 at about 2:15 a.m., Amaranth RCMP were on patrol when a vehicle travelling south on Highway 50 in Amaranth was seen without proper plates. A traffic stop was initiated.

The officer approached the vehicle to find individual baggies of drugs inside. Two women who were in the vehicle were taken into custody. When the vehicle was searched, the officer found multiple baggies of a substance that appeared to be crystal methamphetamine throughout the vehicle. A scale and other drug paraphernalia were also found.

UPDATE: Missing Minnedosa man found safely

Adam Oswald has been safely located. The RCMP thanks the public and the media for their assistance.

On January 6, at about 10:30 a.m., Minnedosa RCMP received a report of a missing man from the RM of Glenella-Lansdowne. Adam Oswald was last seen at a residence on Highway 16 in the municipality on November 27. On November 29, he was in contact with a family member, but he has not been heard from since.

Sandy Bay man assaulted with bear spray during home invasion 

Manitoba First Nations Police Services (MFNPS)  are investigating a home invasion from last Wednesday in which one man was physically assaulted.

The MFNPS responded to a 911 hang-up call on Center Road in Sandy Bay First Nation on January 5.

MFNPS Officers attended to the scene and located a man with facial injuries who had also been sprayed with bear spray.

It was reported that multiple suspects entered the home and assaulted the victim; the suspects had firearms and used bear spray upon entry.

Man airlifted out of Sandy Bay after shots fired

A Sandy Bay First Nation man is in stable condition after being airlifted to hospital by STARS due to a gunshot wound.

Manitoba First Nations Police Services are investigating a shooting incident from Wednesday.

Police say they responded to a victim suffering from a gunshot wound on Ridge Road North in Sandy Bay on January 3. Officers located a man with a gunshot wound to his lower body.

Firetrucks rush to scene of fire on 9th St NE

The Portage la Prairie Fire Department, EMS, and local RCMP responded to a house fire Wednesday afternoon on 9th St NE. The house was occupied by a lone elderly man and his pet cat. 

Neighbour Eric Charbonneau shares what he witnessed..

"I came outside for a smoke, and there was nothing. So, after another twenty minutes, I came out for another smoke, and heard a big bang. I noticed all the firetrucks, and the house was in flames."

STARS lands near Delta Beach

Yet another person's life was helped by STARS and their helicopter.

At approximately 2:30 p.m. on Monday, January 1, Portage Firefighters responded to a 2-vehicle collision on Flee Island Road, northeast of Portage, near Delta Beach. According to the fire department, they determined that one patient required extrication. One patient was transported by STARS helicopter and EMS transported the other. 

The Portage la Prairie Fire Department thanked the local RCMP, EMS crews, and STARS for assisting with the collision.

Moffat excited to see RRCP keep moving the needle

With just three days remaining in 2023, Red River College Polytechnic (RRCP) Portage campus manager Guy Moffat is looking in the rear mirror at a year that has come and gone rapidly.

"It's been a very busy year, and it's been a very successful year, "states Moffat. "It is very important to us to keep innovating. A lot of the highest paying careers that there are today weren't a career ten years ago."

On Wednesday, December 27, at about 10:30 a.m., St-Pierre-Jolys RCMP responded to a bank robbery on Main Street in Grunthal.

The investigation has determined that a lone male entered the bank and demanded money while making threats toward the employees. Following the robbery, it is believed the suspect then fled in a vehicle.
