Transparency and collaboration key in AIS mitigation efforts at Pelican Lake

The discussion continues between council members of the RM of Prairie Lakes and members of the Friends of Pelican Lake as they refine the AIS Mitigation Model to help stop an infestation of Aquatic Invasive Species, specifically zebra mussels, in Pelican Lake.

Last Sunday close to 200 people crowded the Ninette Community Hall to hear the proposed plan and to ask questions.

Journey of Hope: Cyclists Cross Canada to Raise Parkinson’s Awareness

Three teams of cyclists are sharing the miles, in making their way across Canada to raise money and awareness of Parkinson's Disease through the Spinning Wheels Relay to end Parkinson's initiative. 

The relay team heading east passed through Brandon on Sunday, and Portage on Monday, to arrive in Winnipeg Monday evening on their way to Ontario. They’ve reached about halfway to their destination, Ottawa. 

Ninette residents rally to protect lake ecosystem with Pelican Lake AIS Mitigation Model

A group of concerned citizens in Ninette and surrounding Pelican Lake properties held a public open house a week ago to discuss strategies for preventing the spread of aquatic invasive species into the lake, specifically zebra mussels.  

Community meetings are essential for sharing concerns, gathering community input and providing information on what could potentially be a lake-changing disaster should zebra mussels be introduced into Pelican Lake.

Celebrate Excellence: Manitoba's Best at Weekend Sheep Show

Manitoba's Annual Sheep Show and Sale is taking place this weekend in Minnedosa. This year's show will feature eight different pure-bred breeds and 107 entries for rams and ewes in different classes from across Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

This event is for producers to show the quality stock they raise, followed by a junior show where the kids show their Showmanship. 

Manitoba Battles 71 Active Wildfires Amidst Persistent Hot and Dry Conditions - Fire Bulletin #15

There are currently 71 active wildfires across the province, with a total of 233 wildfires to date. Lightning and human caused fires continue to persist with hot and dry conditions although there could be some scattered and isolated showers across Manitoba over the next few days.
