TeleMiracle to benefit Southwest
As Feb. nears the end, an annual fundraiser close to many people in the southwest's hearts is back.
The TeleMiracle telethon for the Kinsmen Foundation has been rooted in Sask. for 48 years. During these years the province has raised over $159 million.
The proceeds from this event go to improving the quality of life and health care for people who are struggling to afford mobility equipment including accessibility lifts, medical travel expenses, or adaptive technology for vehicles and homes.
Country music legends to take stage next week in Swift Current
Three of Canada's top country music artists are making a pitstop in Swift Current next week.
Doc Walker, Jason McCoy, and Michelle Wright are multi-award-winning musicians praised by country music enthusiasts across Canada and America. The three different artists will all take to the stage at Living Sky Casino on Feb. 29.
Chris Thorsteinson and Dave Wasyliw make up the Doc Walker duo. They have spent three decades playing music and have recorded 21 top 10 Canadian country radio singles.
Thriving hockey tournament continues legacy for late brothers
This past weekend, the southwest honoured the lives of a trio of brothers who tragically passed a decade ago in farming accidents.
The Arnal Boys Memorial Bursary for Young Farmers held its eighth annual hockey tournament with eight adult teams and three children's teams.
Chantal Henderson is a sister of the Arnal brothers and the eldest of her surviving siblings. She and her younger sister, Olivia, help plan this heartwarming fundraiser every year.
Eastend community gathers to support fundraising concert
Nearly a third of Eastend's population came out to support and enjoy the Dine and Dance fundraiser this past Saturday.
Supper was served at 6 p.m. and live music and dancing began half an hour later.
The Ranchmen, a local band, volunteered to perform at the event for no charge, only hoping to support their community.
"The Hall is run by volunteers and needs funds to pay for the bills, keep the doors open, redo floors, and stuff like that," Nathan Zelnis, Eastend Hall Board member explained.
Community youth fundraiser needs your help
The Center is still looking for 35-40 more community members to sign up and walk for 'The Coldest Night of the Year'.
This chilly walk is proudly sponsored by S3 Group. Participants can choose to sign up in teams or alone.
"As an organization, our goal is always to bring the community together," said the executive director at The Center. Nathan Wiebe.
Proceeds will go to fund The Swift Current community youth initiative and provide free counselling for youth and troubled or underprivileged family support.
Fun-filled Family Fun Week Finds Swift Current
Spending time with family and having fun are arguably the most valuable parts of life, although sometimes it can be difficult to find the time or even find things to do. That's why in motion community facilitator for the city of Swift Current, Val Choo-Foo, has helped coordinate many events and activities this month for everyone to look forward to.
Elmgren lasting legacy
A couple from Swift Current will forever have their names etched into southwest Sask. medical history.
The Dr. Noble Irwin Regional Healthcare Foundation recently received a more than significant donation left by Rodney and Dorothy Elmgren.
Rodney, who grew up north of Scotsguard passed away in September of 2023 and Dorothy, who was born in Bradford, England passed in December of 2020.
SPCA ready to add four more legs to homes for Family Day
If you've ever thought about becoming a pet owner or have a heart for animals in your family, there's an event you won't want to miss.
On Monday the Swift Current SPCA will be at the Swift Current Mall hosting an adoption fair, with dogs and cats who are all looking for their fur-ever home.
In addition to pets ranging from a few months old to seniors, the SPCA will have quilts, pet coats, and calendars available for purchase. SPCA staff members will be happy to answer any questions you might have.
