SJHL and MJHL split two games at Western All-Star Showcase

After three days, the Western All-Star Showcase has wrapped up in Warman.  

The three-day event saw a roster of 20 players from the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) compete against the Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL) in a pair of exhibition games as a part of a selection camp to determine 20 spots for the Canada West team training camp for the World Junior A Challenge.  

Counting down to Christmas with a Reverse Advent Calendar in Watrous

Advent calendars are typically used to count down the days of Christmas with a gift each day.  

Watrous is taking the opposite approach to help their local food bank by issuing a friendly challenge to the community. 

Instead of receiving a gift, residents are asked to collect a different item each day to fill up a donation box.  

Broncos Strizzi, Miller and McIlwain to participate in Western All-Showcase

Three members of the Humboldt Broncos have been selected to represent the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) at the Western All-Star Showcase in Warman. 

Forwards Jacob Strizzi and Conner Miller along with defenceman Oakley McIlwain will be a part of the SJHL team that will be competing against players from the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.  

Wakaw Warriors heading 2A six-man football provincial championship finals

The Wakaw Warriors will try and add another provincial championship banner to their collection after advancing to the championship final with a 38-22 win over Southey on Saturday on home turf.  

With the win, the Warriors will head to Clavet to meet the Cougars in the 2A six-man finals. 

Roughriders heading into a prairie Western Final after taming the Lions

For the first time since 2021, the Saskatchewan Roughriders will be competing in the Canadian Football League’s (CFL) Western Divisional Final thanks to a 28-19 win over the BC Lions in the Western Semifinal 

It was the Lions who roared to a quick start, scoring on their opening possession, highlighted by a 56-yard touchdown reception by Jevon Cottoy. A failed extra point by BC’s Sean Whyte left the score at 6-0.  

U15 Contact hockey tournament to help out Watson Playschool

You can enjoy some hockey action at the Watson Arena on Saturday and help out the local playschool. 

Teams from Muenster, Carrot River, Hague, Wadena, Cudworth and Warman will be competing in a U15 contact tournament. 

 There will be raffle and 50/50 draws with the proceeds going to the Watson Playschool.
