Royals go winless at Senior AA Provincials

The Senior AA Tier 1 Provincials took place this past weekend in Regina, involving the Marysburg Royals. 

It was a tough weekend for the Royals emerging with no wins. 

They opened the tournament with a 7-5 loss to the host Regina Trappers on Friday,

On Saturday, they opened the day with a 10-7 loss to the Saskatoon Outlaws. 

They lost to the Regina Rockies 12-4 in their second game of the day.

Finishing up the tournament, the Royals lost to the Carlyle Cardinals 11-6. 

Canadian Women's 3x3 Basketball team falls to .500 at Paris Games

A tough day for Team Canada's Women's 3x3 Basketball team with a pair of overtime losses. 

To open Friday’s action, Canada endured a roller coaster affair with the United States, ending with a 18-17 OT loss.  

Humboldt’s Paige Crozon had three points, along with a blocked shot and an offensive rebound.  

Katherine Plouffe led Canadian scorers with ten points.  

Marysburg Royals battle Saskatchewan's best at Senior AA Provincials

The Marysburg Royals will take part in the Senior AA Tier 1 Provincials in Regina beginning on Friday. 

Five teams will take part in the tournament, joining the Royals will be the Saskatoon Outlaws, the Regina Rockies, the Regina Trappers and the Carlyle Cardinals. 

It will be a round robin format with each squad playing four games.  

Canada's Women's 3x3 Basketball team tied for top spot at Paris Games

 

Team Canada's Women's 3x3 Basketball team split their two games on Thursday at the Paris Games.

Canada suffered their first loss at the Paris Games with a 19-15 defeat to Germany to begin the day.

The Germans got off to a fast start, jumping out to a 7-1 advantage. Canada would recover storming back with a 6-0 run to even the game.  

Saturday summer carnival fun at the Humboldt Water Tower

The fun of the long August weekend will be happening at the Humboldt Water Tower on Saturday afternoon with a celebration of the season.  

Beginning at 1:00 pm, there will be a series of activities to keep the whole family entertained.  

Along with the carnival games, there will be a roving circus act, a juggling workshop, a treasure hunt, a visit from the Humboldt fire trucks, and tours of the Water Tower. 

Pool at Humboldt Aquatic Centre begins annual shutdown on Friday

If you want to cool off in the water over the next couple of weeks in Humboldt, you will have to head outdoors.  

The annual shutdown at the pool at the Humboldt Aquatic Centre will begin on Friday and will run until August 16.  

Aquatics Manager Pam Adam explains the shutdown allows for much needed maintenance for the facility.  

Canada's Women's 3x3 Basketball team moves to 2-0 at Paris Games with 21-11 win over China

Team Canada's Women's 3 on 3 Basketball team is on a roll at the Paris Games. 

Earlier today in the second game of the tournament Canada defeated the top ranked China team 21-11.

Humboldt's Paige Crozon and Michelle Plouffe led Canadian scorers with 7 points each. Crozon also had a pair of rebounds and two defensive rebounds.

Canada sits on top of the standings at 2-0. 

On Thursday, Canada will be on the court for a pair of games. First, they meet Germany at 1:30 am local time.

Big Backyard BioBlitz returns

Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) fourth annual Big Backyard BioBlitz is back for the August long weekend, encouraging everyone to go outside and document their surrounding nature.  

Whether you have a deep-rooted passion for nature, or just looking for a fun new outdoor activity, the Big Backyard Bio Blitz is open to all ages. You can enter as an individual or work together as a group.  

Paige Crozon and Team Canada open Paris Games with a win

Team Canada's 3x3 Women's Basketball team with Humboldt's Paige Crozon started off on the right foot at the Paris Games with 22-14 win over Australia in their opening game.
 
Crozon had four points in the victory. Katherine Plouffe led Canada with 10 points with Michelle Plouffe adding 8 points. 

Canada was 8-of-13 from the field and 4-for-11 from two-point range. In 3x3 basketball, a field goal from beyond the arc is worth two points, while a field goal from inside the arc is worth one point.
