Environment Canada has issued special air quality statements for much of southern and northern Manitoba as wildfire smoke continues to blanket the province.

The advisories cover a wide swath of communities, including Winnipeg, Selkirk, Steinbach, Portage la Prairie, Morden, Gimli, The Pas, Thompson and Flin Flon.

According to the federal weather agency, wildfire smoke is causing or expected to cause poor air quality and reduced visibility. The agency warns that air quality and visibility can shift quickly depending on wind and fire conditions.

A recent prison outreach event had men coming out in droves to hear the good news of Jesus, and ended in spontaneous baptisms. 

Pastor Paul Daugherty leads a congregation at Victory Christian Center in Tulsa, OK. For some time, Daugherty has wanted to do prison ministry. 

Hollywood actor Chris Pratt has never shied away from talking about his faith. Recently, he shared on social media that he can't live without Jesus. 

He shared on Instagram a list of what he can't live without, and made sure to include Jesus.

Also on the list are oxygen, organs, his own blood, gravity, the National Football League, his wife and kids, bass fishing and to round it out, his glam team.

Proverbs 10:29-30

We toss around words like faith and love all the time. And most of us can describe both with minimal difficulty.

But hope? What in the world is it? And is it really that essential?

Webster defines hope, "to desire with expectation of fulfilment." To hope is to anticipate. It is more than dreaming, however.

It is possessing within ourselves an expectation that someday there will be the fulfillment of that desire. It will become a reality.

Hope always looks to the future, it's always on tiptoes. It keeps us going.

The death toll continues to climb in the Texas Hill Country following catastrophic flash flooding that swept through Camp Mystic, a private Christian Bible camp for girls along the Guadalupe River.

As of Saturday afternoon, at least 27 people are confirmed dead, including nine children, according to Kerr County Sheriff Larry Leitha.

Winnipeggers may need to find a new route on Sunday as a section of the Provencher Bridge will be closed.

From 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. the bridge will be closed to all eastbound traffic.

The closure will allow crews to complete emergency work required on the lighting structures.

Winnipeg Transit will be rerouted due to the closure.

Stephen Braun, 65 of Winnipeg formerly of Altona passed away Tuesday, July 1st in Winnipeg. He is survived by his wife Lois, 1 daughter, 1 sister, and 1 brother. He was predeceased by his parents Menno and Helen Braun.
The funeral service for Stephen Braun will be held Thursday, 11am at Sargent Avenue Mennonite Church, 926 Garfield Street N, Winnipeg.

'More than ink on paper': Church conference preaches the Word

CHVN was on location in our Summer Cruiser as dozens of people gathered at the Holiday Inn South on Sunday morning for The Word Conference, hosted by The Stone Church Winnipeg. The event was open to everyone and offered free admission.

The gathering opened with prayer and worship, followed by a sermon, concluding with an altar call inviting participants to respond personally. Refreshments were available for attendees after the session, encouraging fellowship and discussion.
