Manitoba bill to add gender expression to human rights code draws praise, criticism
Dozens of people lined up Thursday night to air opposition to and support for Manitoba's plan to add gender expression to the human rights code — a move that would include protections for people to be called by their preferred pronouns.
Derek deVries, pastor at Park City Gospel Church in Winnipeg, said the NDP government's bill would force Christians to go against their beliefs.
"This (proposed) law forbids Christians from following Christ's example. It requires speech he would not permit," deVries told a legislature committee.
65 years of stories and support: Winnipeg’s beloved Children's Hospital Book Market returns
This weekend, the Children's Hospital Book Market will be set up at St. Vital Centre to celebrate their 65th annual event.
This year's book market, in support of the Children's Hospital in Winnipeg, is their biggest event to date.
"I have been involved with the Children's Hospital Book Market for over 33 years," says volunteer Carol Irving. "I've been the volunteer coordinator since 2004. We started in 1961, so we are in our 65th year now."
Steinbach mom helping families heal rooted in faith and hope
A southern Manitoba mom is helping coordinate a walk to bring awareness to mental health struggles and also bring her faith and community together.

"It offers a lifeline for families or friends of loved ones facing emotional challenges. Things like emotional dysregulation, substance use, depression, anxiety, self-injury, and suicidal ideation."
Manitoba regulator approves natural gas rate hike, cites market conditions
Manitoba's energy regulator has approved higher natural gas prices.
The Public Utilities Board says rates for a typical residential customer will rise 12.4 per cent, or about $73 a year, starting May 1.
The board says the increase is due to several market factors, including reduced natural gas storage levels in North America following a colder winter.
Higher demand for liquefied natural gas was also cited.
Gas rates are reviewed regularly and the next review is slated for August.
Jets routed 7-2 by Blues in Game 3 blowout, series lead cut to 2-1
The Winnipeg Jets suffered a lopsided 7-2 defeat in St. Louis on Thursday night, as the Blues rode early pressure and a playoff hat trick from Pavel Buchnevich to claw back into the series.
The loss trims Winnipeg’s series lead to 2-1 heading into Game 4 on Sunday.
Buchnevich shines, Blues dominate from the start
Heading into the game, the Jets were well aware of the challenge ahead. Mark Scheifele had said earlier in the week that playing in St. Louis’ building would be a difficult test, and he was proven right in emphatic fashion.
Federal party leaders work to drive home key messages as election day approaches
Party leaders emphasized familiar themes Thursday as they criss-crossed the country to shore up support in the final stretch of the federal election campaign.
Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre began Thursday in Halifax — where he pitched a promise of change for Canadians struggling to afford life's essentials — before heading to Saskatoon.
In Coquitlam, B.C., Liberal Leader Mark Carney spoke about bringing Canadians together to build up the country to fight U.S. President Donald Trump's trade war.
Verse of the day: April 25
Colossians 1:27-28
"To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. He is the one we proclaim, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ."

Individuality
Psalm 139:13-16
One of the great American myths is that we are all a bunch of rugged individualists. We would like to think that, but it simply is not true. There are some exceptions, of course, but for the majority it is not that way at all.
