FortWhyte Alive has officially opened its new visitor centre, something that has been in the works for years. 

The FortWhyte Alive Buffalo Crossing, Paul Albrechtsen Visitor Centre, is located along McGilivary Boulevard.

This new building, built to the highest global energy efficiency standards, will serve as both a physical and symbolic gateway to the 660-acre reclaimed urban green space.

Henry Thiessen, 88, of Winnipeg formerly of Stuartburn, passed away Tuesday, April 22nd at Heritage Lodge. He is survived by his wife Susan, 1 daughter, 2 sons, 1 sister, 6 brothers and their families. He was predeceased by his parents Jacob and Ana Thiessen, 2 sons, 3 sisters and 6 brothers. 
The funeral service for Henry Thiessen will be held Sunday, 11am at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street, with burial at Reinfeld Cemetery. 
Viewing will be at the chapel one hour prior to the service. 

Students from a West End junior high are being offered an eight-week course with a reward.  

In partnership with The Wrench, a charitable non-profit that operates the largest and best-equipped community bike shop in western Canada, General Wolfe School is offering a bicycle repair and maintenance course. 

Over two months, the youth, all in Grade 9, work on refurbishing a bike, which in return they can take home and call their own. 

A Christian radio broadcast ministry is sharing the good news of Jesus with the many people left picking up the pieces of their lives in Myanmar after a recent and devastating earthquake. 

The 7.7-magnitude earthquake hit the country of Myanmar on Mar. 28, 2025, with the initial death toll of 1,700 people. 

Provincial public health officials are warning Manitobans of possible exposure to measles. 

Officials say two new confirmed cases of measles have been reported in the Southern Health-Santé Sud region related to recent travel to Mexico. 

Both individuals were at Southwood School in the Garden Valley School Division during the infectious period. 

Donald Bolen, the archbishop of Regina, is travelling to Vatican City for Saturday’s funeral of Pope Francis – a journey, he says, is to honour a pontiff who mirrored his vision and his compassion.

The Winnipeg Police Service is warning about a growing social media trend resurfacing in local high schools involving graduating students and a live-action game known as “Assassin.”

The game sees players—typically Grade 12 students—attempt to “eliminate” each other using water pistols in an effort to be the last person standing, according to a release from police.

While intended as harmless fun among peers, the WPS points out that the game often extends beyond school property and can occur at any time of day, potentially alarming the general public.

The polar bears at the Assiniboine Park Zoo are about to get a needed upgrade. 

The Manitoba government said on Wednesday that the Assiniboine Park Conservancy will be provided with a $1.2 million grant to support the zoo’s Journey to Churchill exhibit.

The one-of-a-kind exhibit offers Manitobans and visitors the opportunity to learn about polar bear conservation.
