Canadian MLB pitcher Cade Smith says faith defines him more than baseball

For the last two years, Cade Smith has been a reliable pitcher for the Cleveland Guardians in Major League Baseball, now he's sharing one of his favourite Bible verses with fans while signing autographs. 

Darby Nobles is the team chaplain for several Cleveland teams such as the Browns and the Cavaliers. He is also the Metro Cleveland director for the Cleveland Fellowship of Christian Athletes. 

Nobles shared a video on social media of Smith signing autographs over the weekend and explaining why he has "1 Cor 6:11" written on his glove. 

‘It takes a province to feed a province’: Harvest Manitoba celebrates 40 years

For 40 years, Harvest Manitoba has been committed to ensuring no Manitoban goes hungry, and now the non-profit is gearing up for a big celebration by doing what they do best.

"That is feeding people and doing it a little bit differently with a barbecue street party at our warehouse," Vince Barletta, the President and CEO of Harvest Manitoba said. "We've got entertainment lined up, the screening of a new short documentary, lots of activities, and tours of the warehouse."

Animated film ‘Light of the World’ brings life of Jesus to big screen

A brand-new animated film called Light of the World is set to hit theatres this fall and move hearts, depicting the life of Jesus. 

"It's a reimaging of telling the life story of Jesus through the eyes of a young disciple, John," says John Schafer, the director of Light of the World. "It's a fresh take on it. We made this movie for everyone, but we wrote it mind for people who may not have a concept of Jesus or the Bible."

We Are Messengers release powerful song for daughter's 13th birthday

Darren Mulligan, the lead singer of We Are Messengers, celebrated his daughter's 13th birthday by releasing a tear-jerking song. 

Mulligan and his wife Heidi have four children together, and their eldest daughter, Emmanuelle, just became a teenager.

"It has been a wrestle, for me, letting go of that beautiful child-like relationship that we had when she was a small, wee baby girl," says Mulligan on the band's social media. "But I get the privilege of watching her grow up and navigate a really tricky world."

Eva Funk, 96, of Steinbach passed away Monday, August 18th at Rest Haven Care Home. She is survived by 3 daughters, 1 sister, 2 sons, and their families. She was predeceased by her husband Ben, daughter Becky, and son Ken.  
A memorial service for Eva Funk will be held Tuesday, August 26th at 11am at Birchwood Funeral Chapel.

Irma Dueck, 96, of Kleefeld passed away Sunday, August 17th at her residence. She is survived by 2 daughters, 2 sons, 1 sister, 1 brother and their families. She was predeceased by her husband Hermann, 1 son, 1 sister and 2 brothers. 
The funeral service for Irma Dueck will be held Sunday, August 24th at 2pm at Birchwood Funeral Chapel with burial at Grunthal Cemetery.

Two streets in Exchange District closed following early morning fire

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service was kept busy overnight battling two separate fires. 

The first blaze broke out just after 11:20 p.m. in a single-storey commercial building in the 1000 block of Nairn Avenue.

Smoke was coming from the building when crews arrived. It took about an hour and a half to get the fire under control, and crews were able to stop it before it spread to adjacent businesses.

No one was inside when the fire broke out, and no injuries were reported.

 It's believed the fire was accidental, caused by an electrical failure. 

Blue Bombers fans help collect over 81,000 pounds of food for Harvest Manitoba

Winnipeg Blue Bombers fans have stepped up in a big way.

Through the Purolator Tackle Hunger initiative, which took place during the first five home games of the season, fans responded by bringing non-perishable food items and monetary donations in support of Harvest Manitoba. 

In the end, over 81,000 pounds of food were collected, with Peak of the Market matching donations along the way.  

From hippie to hip replacement: Pastor Greg Laurie recovering after recent surgery

Pastor Greg Laurie is recovering after undergoing hip surgery on Tuesday.

"Please pray for me as I'm going to the hospital to get a hip replacement," said Laurie in a post on social media. "Now I should tell you, I should've gotten this a long time ago. I've been postponing it, and it's become more painful for me, so I finally agreed to a surgery date."

He says he's gone from being a hippie to needing a hip replacement, and he's gone from acid rock to acid reflux.
