Verna Ruth Enns, 102, of Morden formerly of Mather, passed away Wednesday, August 13th at Tabor Home. She is survived by 3 daughters, and their families. She was predeceased by her husband Abram J. Enns and 1 daughter. 
The funeral service for Verna Ruth Enns will be held Tuesday, August 19th at 2pm at Wiebe Funeral Chapel, Morden with burial at Southside Cemetery.  
Viewing will be at the chapel prior to the service.

Herta Kihn, 99, of Steinbach passed away Friday, August 8th at Bethesda Regional Health Centre. She is survived by 1 daughter, 3 sons, and their families. She was predeceased by her husband Joseph Zelmer Kihn, 1 daughter, and 1 grandson. 
The funeral service for Herta Kihn will be held Wednesday, August 20th at 2pm at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Steinbach with burial at the Kihn Family Cemetery, Friedensfeld.

A private funeral service for Audrey Kramble will be held with burial at Transcona Cemetery.

The Children's Hospital Book Market is hosting a special one-day pop-up sale this weekend to raise critical funds for sick and injured kids.

The one-day special event will feature a variety of genres, including fiction, mystery, romance, cookbooks, science, travel, computer and university titles.

1 person in stable condition after being pulled from the Red River Thursday evening

 

A swift response from Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service crews saved a person from the Red River late Thursday night.

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service was called to the Red River, near the Redwood Bridge, shortly after 10 p.m. on Thursday. 

When crews arrived, they quickly located the individual and brought them to shore using a boat. 

The individual was assessed at the scene by paramedics and transported to hospital in stable condition. 

There is no update on how the person ended up in the water or how long they were in there. 

Manitoba artist Danielle Savard celebrates five national award nods

Manitoba-based Christian artist Danielle Savard is celebrating a string of blessings this year, both personal and professional.

Shortly after getting married this past spring, Savard received the unexpected news that she’d been nominated in five categories at the Christian Creative Arts Awards, taking place this weekend in Toronto.

"It was pretty wild," she told CHVN Radio in a recent interview. "I found out a week after our wedding, and I was like, 'Oh my goodness!' I wasn’t expecting this. What a beautiful surprise."

Province approves new 16-month BEd degree at Canadian Mennonite University

Canadian Mennonite University (CMU) has received provincial approval to launch a new condensed 16-month Bachelor of Education after-degree program, set to welcome its first cohort in August 2026.

The program aims to prepare confident, community-minded teachers to work in classrooms across Manitoba and beyond, with 28 weeks of practicum placements built into the schedule. The practicum includes extended time in rural and northern communities.

Manitoba Hydro crews face tough conditions repairing fire-hit infrastructure

Manitoba Hydro crews are working to restore electricity in parts of northern Manitoba after wildfires damaged critical power infrastructure.

The utility says more than 1,200 wooden power poles have been damaged or destroyed by wildfires so far this year, along with related equipment such as transformers and power lines. In many areas, the full extent of the damage is only now becoming visible — and some fires are still burning.
