Gerry Bergen, 65, of Winkler passed away Sunday, August 3rd at Portage, Wisconsin. He is survived by his wife Ruth, 2 daughters, 1 son, and their families and his father Peter. He was predeceased by his mother Freda.
Cremation has taken place.
A memorial service for Gerry Bergen will be held Friday, August 15th at 2pm at Winkler Emmanuel Mennonite Church.
Donations may be made to The Bunker or a charity of one’s choice.

Lambson fans 11 as Goldeyes power past Saltdogs
The Winnipeg Goldeyes (36-46) combined dominant pitching with a power surge at the plate to claim a 7-2 victory over the Lincoln Saltdogs (31-49) Sunday afternoon at Blue Cross Park, securing the three-game series win.
Winnipeg struck early in the bottom of the second inning. Matthew Warkentin launched his 12th home run of the season over the right-field wall, and moments later, Keshawn Lynch delivered a two-run blast to left with Tripp Clark aboard to make it 3-0.

Dorothy LePage nee Pasoluko, 91, of Morden passed away Saturday, August 9th at Notre Dame Hospital. She is survived by 3 sons. She was predeceased by her husband Maurice.
The Mass of Resurrection for Dorothy LePage nee Pasoluko will be held Monday, August 18th at 2pm at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, Morden with burial at Hillside Cemetery.
Viewing will be at the church one hour prior to the service.
Carter Bear returns to Peguis First Nation to celebrate NHL dream
Residents of Peguis First Nation had a special visit over the weekend.
Carter Bear of Peguis First Nation, who was signed to a three-year entry-level contract worth $975K with the Detroit Red Wings, visited the community to sign autographs and greet his fans.
While he was there, he was also given a custom star blanket, and Chief Stan Bird gifted him a medallion.
Forrest Frank back on stage and jumping weeks after spinal fracture
Just three weeks after breaking his back, Forrest Frank was back up on stage, jumping around.
After two weeks of bed rest, Forrest woke up one day and went about his routine without putting on his back brace. Once he realized he was pain-free, he decided to order a new X-ray of his back.
The updated X-ray showed that his back had completely healed.
"I have complete healing in my back," said Forrest. "I have no fractures in my back. No sign of a fracture."
His first show following his injury was slated for Aug. 7 a the Iowa State Grandstand.
Five people rescued from swift water in Pinawa float channel
Five adults were rescued Saturday after becoming stranded in the Pinawa float channel when swift water overpowered their inflatable devices.
According to a news release from the Pinawa Fire & Rescue Service, crews were called to the scene on August 9, along with RCMP and EMS, after reports of people in distress.
International Youth Day brings free programs for Winnipeg teens at the Y
Tuesday is International Youth Day.
To celebrate the occasion, the YMCA-YWCA in Winnipeg is opening its doors to youth aged 13-17 for free drop-in access at all of its community hubs across the city on Tuesday, Aug. 12.
"Youth are at the heart of our mission," said Wendy Shewchuk, manager, Downtown Y Community Hub. "Whether it’s through recreation, leadership development, or employment opportunities, we’re committed to empowering young people to reach their full potential and become changemakers in their communities."
Another day of wildfire smoke as air quality statements blanket Manitoba
For weeks, much of Manitoba has been shrouded in wildfire smoke, and Monday is no exception.
Environment Canada and Manitoba Health have issued and extended special air quality statements for a large swath of the province, warning that smoke from northern Prairie wildfires will continue to impact southern Manitoba through the day.

It's been approximately 45 years since the members of the Crossborders Community Project near the Manitoba/Saskatchewan border and the community of Kola, Man., have been raising funds for the Canadian Foodgrains Bank.
Hundreds of thousands of bushels have been harvested through the Crossborders Grow Projects over the decades, dating back to the early 1980s when the Foodgrains Bank officially began, thanks to Don Neufeld and his father, Art, and the call on their lives to support the Foodgrains in the Kola area.
Fast-moving fire in River Park South destroys 2 homes
A fire Sunday evening in River Park South has left two families without a home.
The fire broke out just before 7:40 p.m. in a home on Southwalk Bay. It quickly spread to a neighbouring home, resulting in the loss of two houses.
When crews arrived, both homes were well involved, with flames and smoke pouring out of both.
According to the United Firefighters of Winnipeg, no apparatus was available at the nearest station.
