From heartbreak to hope: A life-changing mission to Mexico with Brian Krahn

For Winkler native Brian Krahn and his wife Clarissa, their hearts and minds are with the children of Guaymas, Mexico. This is where they have spent the past 14 years running an orphanage for abused and abandoned children.

Krahn, who came to Winkler for Thanksgiving Weekend, shared the life-altering experience that called him and Clarissa to dedicate their lives to helping children in Mexico.

How great you are, Sovereign Lord! There is no one like you, and there is no God but you, as we have heard with our own ears.

Mean what you sing

Revelation 5:9-10

Nothing touches the human heart deeper than music. This is never more true than when a group of Christians sings heartily unto their Lord. Many a cold heart on skid row has melted as the strains of some old hymn lingered in steamy streets and sleazy alleys surrounding a Gospel mission. When congregations sing the praises of the King, even the demonic hosts stand at attention. "The powers of darkness fear when this sweet chant they hear, May Jesus Christ be praised!"

Heritage church building in La Broquerie needing significant repairs

The St. Joachim Parish Church in La Broquerie is nearing its 125th anniversary. And, to ensure that the church building is around for many more years, a fundraising campaign has started that will help with some much-needed repairs.

Luc Grenier is President of the 125th ad hoc committee. He says the church along Principale Street was constructed in 1901. Grenier says it was a handful of parishioners that moved to the area, along with their priest who decided that a church building needed to be constructed. He notes almost all of the material was sourced locally.

One church left in Algeria as Christians face growing persecution

On Tuesday, the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom released a report with troubling news: Only one church remains in Algeria. It’s a stark reminder of the increasing persecution of Algerian Christians.

Yernathen with A3 says an Algerian pastor has been falsely accused of threatening national security. “He’s never done anything wrong in terms against the law. But it’s just the fact that he’s a Christian. He proclaims his faith but also speaks about the right to exist as Christians in Algeria, and the government doesn’t like that.”

Verse of the Day: October 14

Romans 12:2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Bill Vigars, campaign manager for Terry Fox Marathon of Hope, dies at 78

Bill Vigars, who led the promotion of Terry Fox's Marathon of Hope in 1980, has died at the age of 78.

His wife, Sherry MacDonald, confirmed the news in an interview, saying Vigars died of congestive heart failure on Thursday surrounded by loved ones at a hospital in White Rock, B.C. She said he fought a "long, tough battle" that began when he had a heart attack in June.

Vigars is survived by his wife, two children, a stepson and one grandson. He will be honoured at a private ceremony of life early next year, MacDonald said.
