WFPS battles five overnight fires across the city

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service was kept busy Thursday night into Friday morning battling five separate fires in less than eight hours.

The first fire broke out in a single-storey commercial warehouse just before 7 p.m. on Thursday.

Smoke and flames were coming from the building when crews arrived. However, they were able to get it under control quickly.

No injuries were reported.

About an hour later, shortly after 8 p.m. a second fire broke out in a single-family bungalow in the 100 block of Dearborn Avenue.

1 Corinthians 15-16

I heard a statistic the other day that blew my mind. Anna Sklar, the author of a book called Runaway Wives, was a guest on a local talk show. In the course of the discussion, she cited that 10 years ago, for every wife or mother who walked away from her home and responsibilities, 600 husbands and fathers walked out. Today for each man who walks away, two women do.

Pause and let that sink in.

1,000 prisoners attend revival event, 50 baptized on the spot

Dozens of inmates, many serving life sentences, lined up to be baptized at a recent event hosted by God Behind Bars at Angola State Prison in Louisiana.

Over 1,000 inmates attended the event, making it one of the largest prison events in the ministry's history.

"We invited the ENTIRE STATE to join so that all the incarcerated can hear about the FREEDOM of Jesus," said God Behind Bars in a post on Instagram. " 9 prisons were bused in — including a female prison."

Community spirit shines as Winnipeg organizations offer Friendsgiving dinners for all

With the Thanksgiving weekend upon us, many Manitobans are rushing around grocery stores planning for dinners with family and friends.

For others, Thanksgiving can be a lonely time. To lighten the spirits of those who don't have plans, who are new to Winnipeg or who are here for school, a few events have been planned.
