Earthquake strikes Pakistan near Afghan border
A 5.9 magnitude earthquake rocked southwestern Pakistan yesterday, near the Afghanistan border. The quake killed over 20 people and injured at least 300.
Four of the people who died were working in a coal mine when it collapsed. It was the early morning hours, and miners around the region had already begun work. The death toll will probably rise as rescuers search remote areas, home to several more coal mines. The military airlifted several injured to nearby Quetta.

New initiative increases Bible access for Deaf Christians
As more believers see needs in the global Deaf community, they increasingly support sign language Bible translation. Dan* from DOOR International says Scripture distribution – providing Deaf believers with access to the finished translation – is advancing, too.
“It’s an exciting and challenging time in Scripture distribution. Thirty years ago, doing Scripture distribution on video looked like a stack of VHS tapes,” Dan says.
“Deaf people are more connected and more able to communicate with other Deaf people [today] than ever before in history.”

Preaching from a mountainside (in a Winnipeg hotel parking lot)
When a local church that was hoping to minister to forest fire evacuees encountered issues because of COVID restrictions they chose to adapt and the end result was ministering to even more people than those originally intended.
Evacuees from Little Grand Rapids and Pauingassi First Nations have been living in Winnipeg hotels for months after forest fires destroyed power lines into the two communities. The Red Cross reached out to local church Encounter Life Ministries on the weekend, saying the people would like to hold a worship gathering.

What's Not Allowed? A Family Journey with Autism
October is autism awareness month in Canada.
It is estimated that 1 in 66 children and youth has been diagnosed with autism in Canada, yet Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a condition that remains misunderstood by many people. Teresa Hedley wants to change that.
"Awareness is like handing out catcher's mitts," Hedley explains. "It helps us to know what to do and how to receive and understand a person with autism."

While her song was written out of a place of grief, Francesca Battistelli's new song and music video are sure to inspire.
"A few years ago a friend of ours went through a devastating loss. Truck drivers report fearing for their own security. Many don’t have the fuel they need to complete their journeys. The war, fought for almost a year by the Ethiopian government against the Tigray People’s Liberation Front, is putting the population at risk of famine and has displaced many people from their homes.
