Hope of the Valley Rescue Mission has a goal to prevent, reduce and eliminate poverty, hunger and homelessness in Los Angeles.
Ken Craft is the founder and CEO, and he has a powerful story of how he became involved with this mission.
"I was a pastor for many years and had my own broken world experience, and I ended up losing everything," Craft explains.
Elias Dummer opens up about new single and performing in Canada again
Originally from Canada, Nashville-based artist, Elias Dummer will be coming back to his homeland to perform in September.
Dummer was the lead singer of The City Harmonic based out of Ontario, where he grew up.
"When you're in a band, everything's collaborative. You're working together on something and there's a lot of good things that come along with that, as iron sharpening iron. But sometimes the weird ideas you have get sanded off," he says.
Teamwork to help Haiti after devastating earthquake, killed over 2,000
Multiple Christian groups are helping Haiti in a 'chaotic and extremely difficult' time.
"On August 14 there was an earthquake that really shook the southern part of Haiti. There's still a lot of digging through rubble happening," says Annie Loewen, the Interim Director of Disaster Response at Mennonite Central Committee (MCC).
The extent of damage from the 7.2 magnitude earthquake is still being processed.
"The count is now over 2,000 people who have died and over 10,000 that have been injured," says Loewen.
Samaritan’s Purse helping Haiti earthquake victims
After Saturday’s 7.2 magnitude Haiti earthquake killed more than 1,200 people, injured at least 5,700 and caused severe damage, Samaritan’s Purse immediately began to mobilize staff and relief supplies.
The Christian relief organization has flown 13 disaster response specialists (two of them from Canada) and 31 tons of emergency relief, including shelter material, medical supplies and two community water filtration units, to Haiti. Each unit can provide clean water to 3,500 people each day.

Polish Olympian Maria Andrejczyk won a silver medal for the javelin throw at the Tokyo 2020 Summer Games. Instead of hanging the medal on a wall, she decided to put it to better use.
Andrejczyk set up an online auction for her medal, in hopes of raising money for an 8-month old boy to get a life-changing surgery. Miłoszek Małysa needs life-saving heart surgery in the United States.
Colton Dixon celebrating twin daughters' first birthday
The day Colton Dixon welcomed twin girls to the world was precarious, but a year later he's celebrating their lives.
"I can’t believe it’s already been 1 year. Athens and Dior, you stole my heart a year ago and haven’t let go since," says Dixon on his Instagram.
The twins celebrated their first birthday on August 18, 2021.
The day they were born was touch and go for little Dior. She was born not breathing, however, as the new parents were praying over her, she was resuscitated.
Scottish churches no longer have to limit attendance
For the first time since March 2020, physical distancing ends for churches in Scotland, although face masks remain.
“This is a time to celebrate, as we worship God together”, the Evangelical Alliance says.
Churches in Scotland have been able to hold worship services with unlimited numbers of people for a week now.
For the first time since March 2020, they are no longer required by law to observe physical distancing measures at worship services, but for now, face coverings and the collection of contact details for Test and Protect will remain.
Long-term worker in Afghanistan devastated by Taliban control
A Manitoba resident who has spent the last 40 years working with the Afghan people is devastated by the news coming out of Afghanistan right now.

Christian pop artist Coby James releasing new single, feeling 'Brand New'
At only 19-years-old, Coby James is thrilled to be sharing his joy-filled upbeat music with listeners.
"I was born in North Carolina. I moved the week of the pandemic shut down last year [to Tennesse]," says James. "I moved before Senior year of high school was even done, when I was 18."
James lives just outside of Nashville and enjoys immersing himself in the Christian music scene.
"I was completely ready to get out and be here, where music was. To be where I felt the Lord was calling me. It felt like where I was supposed to be."
