Government recognizing National AccessAbility Week in Saskatchewan

This week the province is recognizing National AccessAbility Week in Saskatchewan alongside other provinces across Canada.

It runs from May 28 until June 3.

In a release, the province said the week recognizes the leadership, impact, and voices of Canadians living with disabilities, and is an opportunity to highlight the work being done to remove barriers for people with disabilities and foster a more inclusive country.

Regina revitalizing airport

An exciting new project is underway at the Regina Airport.

The Regina Airport Authority announced Monday that it has started a major airfield revitalization project worth $26 million. Construction has started and will continue until September.

The airport said the main runway will be closed as it's worked on, while the secondary runway will remain operational.

Edmonton conference a learning opportunity for Arcola students

Last week, Grade 10 students from Arcola School attended the Soaring Conference in Edmonton, which focused on youth empowerment through an Indigenous lens.

"It's to encourage our Indigenous youth to finish their education, and then all of the opportunities that they have available to them," said the students' teacher Jacquie Walbaum, who teaches Grade 7-12 at Arcola School. "Basically financial options and courses, and just to get them excited about their future."

Walbaum said many of the students gained new interests from the experience.

New infrastructure projects on the way following joint investments

Twenty-one new infrastructure projects are coming to Saskatchewan, thanks to joint funding from the provincial and federal governments.

“The investments we are making will improve the quality of life of residents across Saskatchewan,” said Dominic LeBlanc, the federal Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, Infrastructure and Communities. "We will continue working with our partners to invest in community infrastructure and build a better future for all Saskatchewanians."

Province warns of online cryptocurrency company

The provincial government is warning investors of an online entity known as Atomic Trade Limited.

"Saskatchewan residents who are considering retail and DIY investment opportunities should make sure that they are dealing with legitimate entities by checking their registration status," Financial and Consumer Affairs Authority Executive Director Dean Murrison said. "It only takes a few minutes to confirm that an investment seller is appropriately registered, and it can prevent someone from falling victim to illegitimate operators."

Regina Airport gearing up for busy Easter season

Regina International Airport is anticipating a hectic Easter holiday weekend and spring break as people try to get away for one last family visit or vacation before the summer season arrives.

Justin Reves, the manager of customer experience and marketing with the airport, said he expects the busy trend from Christmas and Family Day Weekend to continue on Easter weekend.

"What we've seen in the last couple of holidays, including Christmas and the Family Day long weekend...things got very, very busy with basically every flight being full," Reves said.
