A look at armed forces recruiting numbers through a Saskatchewan lens
The Canadian Armed Forces saw a spike in interest last month as the Canadian government opened up applications to all permanent residents.
According to Canadian Armed Forces spokesperson Cdr Peter Antonew, there were almost 2,400 applications from permanent residents in November alone. Fifty-three of those applications were from permanent residents in Saskatchewan. In total, there were 155 applications from Saskatchewan in November.

RCMP inundated over snowy weekend
Saskatchewan RCMP were extremely busy this past weekend as the first taste of winter swept across the province.
From October 31 to November 6, the Mounties said they received 298 reports of motor vehicle collisions, with 60 per cent of those happening between Friday and Sunday.
There were 50 collisions on Friday, 61 on Saturday, and 68 on Sunday as the streets and highways got progressively worse over the weekend.
Patron sentenced to 1 year in jail for promoting hatred towards Jews
Travis Patron will remain behind bars for a little while longer.
The former leader of the Canadian Nationalist Party was sentenced to one year in jail and one year probation Thursday afternoon at the Estevan courthouse. He had been found guilty earlier in the month for promoting hatred in a video published online.
Patron will receive credit for 197 days already served in jail, which will be subtracted from the 365-day sentence, meaning he'll have to serve 168 more days.

The verdict came down in Estevan court on Wednesday. The jury reached the unanimous decision just after 12 p.m.
